This is one of the few films I’ve encountered where I had to suspend my disbelief simply way too far.

It seems the writers thought they could get away with cramming in memorable scenes, thoughtprovoking lines and ‘cool’ events without considering time, coincedence and logicality.

One of the many glaring incongruities that pulled me out of the movie was that everything was carried out by the Joker as if he had travelled into the future to see how he should pull off all of his plans:

e.g:
- Lining up a bus with other buses that happen to have one space long enough for an extra bus, seconds before the police arrive – without the other bus drivers seemingly caring;
- Knowing that Batman 1) would take over a police investigation, 2) would concentrate on a bullet, 3) possessed the techniques to find fingerprints on the fragments from that bullet, 4) would choose the right suspect out of four possible ones and 5) be at the exact time in the apartment that was on the suspect’s name.
- Situations that the original poster already pointed out, especially nr. 15 and 16.

32. Dent and Maroni crash

Dent has Maroni trapped in his car, and instead of shooting Maroni, he kills the driver of the car, causing huge crash?! Half of Dent’s face is melted off and he must be in serious pain, yet he decides the best way to further his goal is to cause a car crash in which he could conceivably be killed?!

Dent went into Maroni car to squeeze him for information about the corrupt cops who gave him and Rachel to Joker. He says that spilling this info out will increase his odds to survive. When Maroni says what Dents wants to hear, Dent tosses the coin, making the odds for survival of Maroni be 50/50. Maroni gets lucky and the not scarred side falls up. Dent can shoot Maroni directly now. So he tosses another coin for the drivers luck. The scarred side comes up, and he shoots the driver. You can clearly see Dent putting his safety belt in this moment. Actually this was a very interesting scene.

About your points. I agree with most of them, but I also think one has to have a certain suspension of disbelief to appreciate a movie. Almost all movies have incredible coincidences who makes the story go.

There are some points though, that I completely agree with you, namely the the time between the death of Rachel, and Two-Face trying to kill Gordon’s son.

I love the Joker contradictions as if the author forgot how deep the Mob was corrupting MCU… And how Deep Joker had gotten into the Entire mob sydnicate in Gotham, thus having Numerous connections NUMEROUS.

But enough bashing.

Why So serious?

Having Batman being hunted by the police and hated by the public is crucial to the plot of The Dark Knight returns.

“Well, I could say I did it. I mean, I was halfway across town when they happened, and people saw me running around saving hostages when those people were dying, but we can make it work. I’ll valiantly sacrifice myself for this city.”

“….yeeeeah, I was kinda thinking of blaming the Joker. Y’know, or his henchmen.”

“Oh.”
